If you feel like you need a little extra time understanding a concept, you're not alone. In fact, the Asst. Secretary for Innovation and Improvement at the Department of Education, Jim Shelton, noted "student achievement improves dramatically for students who receive one-on-one instruction over traditional classroom instruction." This concept holds true for students at Staunton River High School as well. Dozens of students utilize after school help provided through the 21st Century program, where sessions are geared to focus on test taking strategies and content review.
Don't believe in it's effectiveness? Benjamin Bloom, Educational Psychologist, maintains that "one-on-one tutoring produces a two-standard deviation improvement over classroom instruction, and if the US school population improved by just one standard deviation, we would be the top performing nation in the world."
Free tutoring services are available most days after school, and if you need transportation, a bus route is provided that leaves Staunton River at 5:40 PM.
