What is a Career Coach? 


Virginia Community Colleges High School Career Coaches are community college employees who are based in local high schools to help high school students define their career aspirations and to recognize community college and other post-secondary programs, including apprenticeships and workforce training, that can help students achieve their educational and financial goals. 

The fundamental objectives of the VCCS High School Career Coaches Program are to empower students to make informed decisions about their career and educational plans and to prepare students for success in post-secondary education and training.

What will the SRHS based Career Coach be doing?

A number of things including, but not limited to, in class guidance presentations, career aptitude tests, individual/group counseling, college tours, job shadowing field trips in and around the community, and mentoring programs. 

When Is my Career Coach available to meet?


The Staunton River High School Career Coach is also based at Liberty High School, so office hours may vary. 

How can I schedule a meeting with my Career Coach?

Scheduling a meeting is simple. Check in with the Secretary in Building 3 and ask if the Career Coach is free to meet. If they are meeting with another student or are out that day, be sure to complete a meeting request slip and they will call you out of class at their earliest convenience.

Website - Bedford One Program - Links high school students with local businesses based on their career interests. It is a partnership between the Bedford County Office of Economic Development, Bedford County Public Schools, and area businesses. 
Website - CVCC Fast Forward - Offers intensive, short-term training opportunities in a variety of fields. 
Website - College Central Network - Available to CVCC students, alumni, and employers. Make your resume visible to employers looking to specifically hire individuals who have taken CVCC courses (includes current dual enrolled students).
Website - Virginia Education Wizard - Register to create a free account and take various career assessments. Can also be used to search for Virginia colleges and community colleges by population size, area, major, and more.
