Welcome to Staunton River High School

Staunton River exists to provide a foundation that will allow our students the best opportunity for a lifetime of success.

Staunton River High School will challenge all students with a rigorous and diverse academic program to exceed their own expectations in a safe environment that fosters respect, self-discipline, tolerance, and social development. Our school will be the anchor for our community, providing programs that build unity, involvement, and pride.

We are “Committed to Excellence”, and we work hard to make this website a primary source for timely information for all users, and a main gateway for improved communication between parents, teachers, students and other members of our community.

    Cut-off Date for Meal Charges
Towards the end of each school year the School Nutrition Program establishes a cut-off date for meal charges in the school cafeteria. This cut-off date is established to give the program sufficient time to collect outstanding charges and clear up accounts before the end of the school year. This year the last day that students will be allowed to charge school meals is Friday, May 13th.
Beginning on Monday, May 16th students must either have money with them when they come through the serving line or have sufficient funds on their student meal account to cover what is purchased. If a student comes to the cafeteria to eat breakfast or lunch and does not have the funds to cover the purchase, cafeteria staff will give the student an alternate meal of toast & milk for breakfast and a sandwich and milk for lunch until funds are received.
Parents are always welcomed to call the cafeteria manager at their child’s school to check their child’s account balance. They may also call the School Nutrition Office at 586-1045 ext. 224. Any questions concerning the cut-off date for cafeteria charges may be directed to Karen Arthur, School Nutrition Supervisor at 586-1045 ext. 224. The School Nutrition Program truly appreciates your business.

Policy JCD - School Zone Transfers
Bedford County School Board Policy JCD School Zone Transfers establishes guidelines for students to attend schools outside of their attendance zones. The policy sets a timeline for requesting permission to attend a school outside of the school zone in which a student resides. The window is from March 1 until July 1 immediately preceding the school year for which the zone transfer is requested.  Parents, who reside in Bedford County and are not school employees, can request zone transfers by completing the request form, which is located on our website: Transfer Form  and submitting the form electronically, by mail, or by fax.

Bedford County Public School employees requesting school zone transfers for their children should use a separate form that is also located on our website:

     Important Notice
Students and their families are encouraged to use a variety of information sources to select a college and major. The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) provides one such source that is available here

Wearing seat belts is not only the law, but it saves lives! Did you know that the National Safety Council reports that more than 75,000 lives were saved over four years by simply clicking a seat belt?

For the remainder of the year, seat belt checks will be conducted by state and local police officers near our school.

Take a moment to “Click it!” It may save you a ticket, and, more importantly, it may save your life!

Policy JFCH-- Tobacco-Free School for Students & Visitors
