STEM Academy

Lynchburg Regional Governor’s STEM Academy offers programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics for high school juniors and seniors. 

These programs provide academic and technical training related to careers in mechatronics and healthcare technologies. STEM also provides senior year internships!  Students can earn a career certificate in Engineering and numerous college credits, costing families approximately $2,000.

SRHS students attend STEM academy during the mornings at CVCC in Lynchburg. BCPS provides transportation.  Students leave school each day at 7:00 a.m. and return to school in time for 3rd and 4th blocks.  Students return to SRHS to take English, History/Government, foreign language, arts, CTE courses, sports, and extracurricular activities.

Application process:

  1.  Fill out the application form and notify your School Counselor.
  2.  Ask your school counselor to complete the Counselor Form.
  3. Ask three of your teachers (1 math teacher, 1 science teacher and 1 other teacher) to write recommendations for you using the information provided on the STEM Academy website.
  4. Take the CVCC Placement test in MATH and ENGLISH and include the results in your application packet. (as some courses are dual-enrolled through CVCC)

Selection is based upon: quality of application content, attendance, discipline, academic achievement, as well as teacher and counselor recommendations.

In conjunction with the STEM Academy, students are required to meet all BCPS diploma requirements.
