Southside Electric Cooperative

Juniors at SRHS have applied for and attended Southside Electric Cooperative’s Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., the last few years. Unfortunately, because of ongoing concerns about COVID-19, this year’s trip has been canceled. It’s disappointing to SEC because this is the second year the pandemic has canceled the trip. However, the well-being of students and chaperones is most important.

Anticipating the cancellation, SEC’s Member and Public Relations Team developed an alternative called YouthTECH. Instead of applying for Youth Tour, current juniors who live and attend school in our service area can apply to win a new laptop computer. Students’ parents or guardians do not have to be an SEC member.

We will give away 8 laptops this spring! Much like Youth Tour, students fill out an application, write an essay and submit a photo to us by March 26. There won’t be any in-person interviews. The application is under the “Community” tab at Students will need to print and fill it out.

Attached is a flier about the program. Please promote it with the juniors at your schools. We’re excited about the opportunity to provide the laptops and look forward to getting many applications. Please contact me or Joy Stump, my colleague in Crewe, with any questions. Our contact information is on the flier.
